FSLA Final Exemptions Fact Sheet

On May 18, 2016, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced the release of a final rule updating regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which exempt executive, administrative, and professional employees from its minimum wage and overtime requirements (often referred to as the white collar exemptions). The rule was published in the May 23, 2016 Federal Register and goes into effect on December 1, 2016. Don't Ever Click on These Links!

Stan received an email from the post office, informing him that a package could not be delivered. The email instructed him to click on a link to arrange delivery. But, when Stan clicked on the link, his computer was infected with a malicious virus! Self-defense: Before clicking on any email link, hover your cursor over it. Then look at the status bar at the bottom of your browser window - it will show the actual web address to which the link connects. If it looks fishy, don't click on it! Also, be aware that the US Postal Service does NOT send emails about missed deliveries. They only leave notices in your physical mailbox.

OSHA's Final Rule to Protect Workers from Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica

Rule requires engineering controls to keep workers from breathing silica dust The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a final rule to curb lung cancer, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and kidney disease in America's workers by limiting their exposure to respirable crystalline silica. The rule is comprised of two standards, one for Construction and one for General Industry and Maritime. The Final Rule is projected to provide net benefits of about $7.7 billion, annually. About 2.3 million workers are

Weed-smoking Canadian drivers dismiss danger of being high behind wheel

(Bloomberg) -- Almost half of weed-smoking Canadian drivers say that they can safely operate a vehicle while stoned. Among Canadians who have driven under the influence of marijuana, 44% don’t think it impacts their ability to drive safely, according to a report Tuesday by State Farm. That compares with 42% who acknowledge a difference and 14% who don’t know. Insurers have been highlighting the risks of marijuana as legal restrictions ease and cultural norms shift, especially among youth. Liberty Mutual Holding Co. and a safety group said in 2013 that most teenagers who drove under the influence of the drug said it either improved their performance behind the wheel or was no hindrance.
